New salute rules for Vets and Active Duty Members

The FY09 National Defense Authorization Act (FY09 NDAA) authorizes Veterans and Military Members not in uniform to render the military style hand salute during the raising, lowering, or passing of the flag.

"The military salute is a unique gesture of respect that recognizes those members who have served in our nations armed forces. This provision allows the application of that honor in all events involving our nations flag", so stated the then Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake.

It's official! The next time you witness a ceremony for the flag, Salute away!
